Why are big box store and warehouse outlet coffee beans so cheap compared to KAFFEE 42's selections?

Because they buy sub-standard beans processed and stored as cheaply as possible! Often, their beans are roasted to the point of being burned such that the taste of contaminants or old beans is masked.
Long story short:
They minimize their costs to maximize their profits while simultaneously maximizing YOUR risk!

Coffee Spotlight: Our Own Blend of Brazil Santos and African Kahawa
Brazil Santos is one of our favorites. It is an elegant and smooth medium roast coffee with a hint of cocoa that really goes down well and is appropriate for just about any occasion. African Kahawa is itself a medium-dark blend with hints of toffee, caramel, chocolate, raisins, green apples, red fruits and even hints of cherries and black currant. While we love Brazil Santos, we bought our first bag of African Kahawa and found it infused with flavor. If you're into bold coffees, try it, you will like it!
For some, medium roast smooth coffees tend to be the order of the day. One of us had the idea of merging the African Kahawa to the Brazil Santos, to provide a refined boost of flavor. Upon combining these two hardy aromas', we found that this hybrid flavor was a massive new favorite. Try it! Highly recommended!
Our Personal Favorites
6 Bean World Blend - A bold dark blend of 6 coffees great as an espresso. As a French Press coffee, let it steep.
Brazil Santos - In our opinion, one of the smoothest coffees we've ever had. While we love the Mexico (below), this medium roast coffee is head and shoulders a smoother choice.
Great Plains Cowboy Blend - A medium & dark roast blend with a robust, bold flavor profile. For coffee press, steep short for a milder taste or longer for a bold high brew ratio coffee.
Mexico - A bold, smooth and delicious medium roast grown at altitude in Mexico.

Return and Refund Policy
Should you find that your product is unsuitable for use because of contaminants, not the product that you ordered, or arrives to you with the sealed bag opened and coffee beans spilled, we will replace your coffee at no charge and work to provide you a corrected order in the shortest reasonable time. We will also replace orders delivered to the wrong address given that any claim filed with the carrier provides for the credit to be paid to KKM Holdings LLC or KAFFEE42.com. Do not dispose of any contaminated product as a return may be requested in order to help us determine the source and corrective action. We will pay shipping for any item we ask you to return to us.

Shipping Policy
Your coffee order will be roasted, rested, bagged and shipped within 3-5 days after you place your order.
Properly rested coffee extracts cleanly, resulting in a fuller, richer flavor, rather than the grassy or fermented tastes associated with under-rested beans.
